Tver historyIn the north-west of the Tver province are the beginnings of three great European rivers: Volga, Dnieper and Western Dvina. Verhnevolzhskie - Open landscapes attracting woodland, fields and quiet blue lakes are a common feature of the Russian countryside.
The history of Tver and its vicinities is full of important people and events.
Among the heroes of the Tver province is the grand duke Michael Jaroslavovich Tverskoy, who had united Russian grounds. Tver merchant Athanasius Nikitin’s had gone from Tver by the River Volga and opened the route to Europeans and India and one of known eremites Nile Stolobensky. Descendants have named a man’s monastery of deserts Nilovo-Stolobenskaja operating nowadays, near cities Ostashkov on lake Seliger.
The architectural shape of the Tver province is the sample of the highest standard of building art. Town-planning ensembles of the regional centre and districts, country manor complexes, beautiful churches and monasteries are constructed by F.-B. Rastrelli, P.R.Nikitin, M.F.Kazakovym, J. Quarengi, K.I.Rossi, V.P. Stasov and N.A.Lvov. They have transformed the whole district Novotorzhsky by "palladin" into an architectural dream similar to that of unsurpassed Italy.
