In the north-west of the Tver province are the beginnings of three great European rivers: Volga, Dnieper and Western Dvina. Verhnevolzhskie - Open landscapes attracting woodland, fields and quiet blue lakes are a common feature of the Russian countryside.

The history of Tver and its vicinities is full of important people and events.

Among the heroes of the Tver province is the grand duke Michael Jaroslavovich Tverskoy, who had united Russian grounds. Tver merchant Athanasius Nikitin’s had gone from Tver by the River Volga and opened the route to Europeans and India and one of known eremites Nile Stolobensky.
